So the 2008 weblog awards are going on right now. I looked up the list for the best LGBT blog and do you know what I found?
They all pretty much suck and I don't know how they ended up being finalists.
There, I said it and I'm not taking it back.
Since when does every worthwhile blog have to be about politics, book reviews, protests, Prop 8, down with GW, etc...boring..etc...
When I think of LGBT, I think of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered. (Duh.)
I don't think of legislation, picketing, and all of that other crap. If I wanted to read a political blog, I would read one. Who picks who is worthy and who isn't?
Give me a gay or lesbian blog that talks about living in the real world, trials and tribulations, coming out to friends, family or work. Parenting, pregnancy, sex and daily life for an ordinary un-political gay person. Seriously, of all the gay people I know, there is 1 who lives their life by politics. The rest? They keep up when they can but they are busy living.
Don't get me wrong, if that is your cup of tea then have a little sugar, sugar but get real. I want to see blogs of substance. A substance other than the political views I have to scrape off the bottom of my shoe.
I guess I am just disappointed that the best LGBT blog will be a political one, rather than an actual LGBT blog.

So there was this thing....
For the first time I faced a homophobe. A true homophobe. I could not believe the hatred this person could write. I was appalled and stunned and I cried for an entire afternoon over this. For one, this person said and I am quoting here:
"There are some people who were born with a greater tendency to be homosexual. It covers a wide range - some more of a tendency, some less. Everyone can overcome their tendency. But once you sanction the behavior as normal (i.e. allow them to marry) then many borderline homosexuals will cross over into that world. Imagine a teenage boy who has had a few frustrating experiences with girls. He may now be susceptible to forging an intimate relationship with a warm and caring man. Many, in our dysfunctional society, are simply blocked in expressing normal love relationships with the opposite sex. That just means that they are chosen to perfect that part of the Torah, by overcoming their inclinations."
Believe it or not, this was the least offensive thing she wrote.
My first reaction was to rip her a new one, but I suppose I needed to set a good example and be a reasonable, articulate homosexual rather than a belligerent angry dyke.
First of all, the word "tendency" is not a word I am a fan of when it is in reference to a reason for being gay. You tend to like men or you tend to like women. In my world there is no "ish" in tend. And for her to suggest that you can "overcome" is as ignorant as saying a black person can overcome the color of their skin, or that a person born with Downs Syndrome can overcome their handicap. We are all born the way we are for a reason. God chose me to be the way I am, the way you are, the way she is and the way he is. There is nothing to overcome, there is only a way to live and I chose to live the life I was born to live. Unfortunately that means because she is a total homophobic bible thumping idiot, she is entitled to not have to overcome that as well.
Secondly, there is no such thing as a borderline homosexual. Especially when in reference to someone who has had bad experiences with the opposite sex to the point where they switch sides. It's absurd to think that allowing gays to get married would make a straight person be susceptible to being pushed over the "gay" edge by a broken heart. Seriously, did she have her Mormon head stuck in the ass of Joseph Smith himself?
I have been thinking about the things this person said for two weeks. I have been mulling it over, chewing on it, cursing about it, poking needles in a voodoo doll and praying so that I may have the patience to deal with her and those who share her opinions. I'm not a stand out kind of gal. I go with the flow and try not to rock the boat but after this experience I may need a ladder to get off my high horse.
I didn't change the way she felt, I didn't expect to. I hope that I at least gave her an intelligent articulate view of things from someone who just happens to be a lesbian. I know that some people put the fact they are gay on their sleeve. It's who they are, it's how they live, it's the impressions that they leave. For me? Being a lesbian is a small part of who I am. I'm Kathy, I'm a mom, a sister, an aunt, a daughter, a friend, a co-worker, a lover of music, an artist, a human.
After you go through the list of the things I am, at the bottom is a single word. Lesbian. It defines a small part of who I am and as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing on the list of things I am that I care to overcome.

Oh lookie!
It's been a whole week since I have updated! So spank me. :)
Lets see, lots of drama on the lesbian front. I am an owner of an online lesbian moms group and the group has been around for about 4 or 5 years and we've had our drama in the past but yesterday? Yesterday almost pushed me over the edge.
I hate dyke drama. I really do. We have a member and I love her to death but she will poke you with a stick until you bite and that is what happened yesterday and because I like her so much I didn't put a muzzle on her and I didn't protect others from her bite and people got all mad and threw big hissy fits and just let me slit my wrists now please!!
I left my own group. Imagine that!! I LEFT MY OWN GROUP! I told Lin that I'm one step away from dropping my basket and the ladies in the group were biting my fingers.
So, there you have it. My next blog will be titled "Notes on a suicide". I'm. so. not. kidding.

Workin for a living
I think my boss is slowly losing his mind. It started out with him being dizzy and confused, he had a short hospital stay and they couldn't find anything wrong. After seeing a few doctors it was determined that he had a growth in his brain, but his exact words were "I'm not worried about it, I still think it's a blood sugar issue."
Since that time he forgets things. A lot of things. He asked me same question 3 times in 10 minutes the other day. He's quick to get upset and has been very cranky and condescending. It's not just me that has noticed it. Our stress level in the office is very very high at the moment.
(subject change)
He had the nerve yesterday to tell me that when he sees someone with tatoos his first thought it "Boy are they trashy." Even though he admitted that the way he thinks isn't right it still did not sit well with me. Then I announced that I have 4 tattoos. Ha! Maybe I should wear a skirt and show off the 2 on my ankle. *snort* (Yeah..I had to laugh at the skirt thing too...)
All of the full time staff have been invited to the board Presidents house for a cocktail party with the entire board of directors. Significant others are invited. At this point, I'm pretty sure I want to take Lin with me because I'm tired of playing word games and since my boss knows, and most of the staff knows, why does it continue to be a big deal? I would love to put a picture of Lin and I on my desk without having to worry about who is going to find out.
And if I get fired? Oh well, it's time to move on. The only thing that is scary about that is trying to find a new job that would pay me what I'm making now.
Maybe I should get back to work?

Letter to Satan Kern
Dear Cunt Kern,
As a native Oklahoman I am mortified at the words that spewed from your mouth. As a lesbian I am saddened and outraged that you think I am worse than a terrorist. Tell my two children that would you? Do you realize that there are now millions of people out there who think all of Oklahoma shares your opinion?
How dare you say that I am worse than the people who torture and murder others in THE NAME OF GOD! When is the last time you heard a news report of a gay suicide bomber who gave his life for the gay agenda? When is the last time a gay person kidnapped people in the quest for equal rights? How dare you.
Your right about going after the 2 year olds in our nation. I can't tell you how many times I stood outside a daycare center and handed out pamphlets to the toddlers. Can't read? No problem! I'll just hand them a flow chart with pictures. If I sway 30 more toddlers by the end of the month I will have reached Emerald Level and boy howdy have you seen the prizes at that level? I'm just all a flutter with excitement!
Sally Kern, you do not represent all of Oklahoma. Sadly, there are people here who agree with you, but I can tell you that it will become the mission of gays everywhere to make sure you are never elected into any political office ever again. You are a stain on the great state of Oklahoma. Lucky for Oklahoma we have plenty of gays out there who know how to get stains OUT!
Queerly yours,
Kathy

Missing the ones you love
I work on the 2nd floor of a very old building. I've been told that the trolly use to pass by right in front. We don't have an elevator and the stairs are steep and creaky.
After working here for a few weeks I figured out each persons footsteps. I could always tell who was coming or going. Even other people who work in the building. At first it was kind of like a game. I had a lot of fun figuring out each persons footsteps on the stairs. (Fun? I am SUCH a loser)Why am I telling you this? Hang on and I'll tell you.
Our regular mail carrier would open the door, plop the mail on my desk and shut the door as quick as she could. She was obviously a lesbian and I was offended that she didn't even give me a double take. Hello? I'm gay too! Do I HAVE to show you my membership card to prove it? Do I need to bring the free toaster I received when I joined the club and signed on the dotted line? Okay, so I'm not a hundred yarder and I don't wear pride jewelry, but aren't I at least hot enough for her to do a double take?
Talk about a blow to the ole ego. I would always thank her and she would just nod her head and shut the door. I felt so cheap trying to get her attention and she just snubbed me everytime. *sigh*
Did I think she was attractive? Not in the slightest. Why did I want her attention? I have no clue. I have been thinking about this for a long time. I have no idea why I wanted her to acknowledge me other than maybe having something in common with someone else who happens to be in my vicinity. Well, here is the sad news. I am very distraught. The big butch lesbian mail "lady" that I have been talking about must have been moved to a different route. I haven't seen her in weeks. I am saddened by this. My day just isn't the same. I will never again hear the creak of her foot steps on the stairs. I don't think I'll be able to look at another mail carrier ever again. Hold on...I need a moment.
Oh how I will miss her big strong hairy tattoo'd arms, her deep voice, the way she stomped so loud coming up the stairs. I could always tell it was her everytime.....but most of all,
I will miss her mullet. *sniff*
